Varena is our home, where we were born and raised. A little village in the municipality of Ville di Fiemme, cited as one of the oldest ‘villas’ in Trentino, with just over 800 inhabitants, at an altitude of 1,200 m. The location is fantastic, very panoramic and sunny, just 4 km from the village of Cavalese, the valley’s main town, rich in entertainment and cultural attractions.
From Varena you ascend along a beautiful road nestled in the woods that in just a few minutes takes you to the high plateau of Passo del Lavazè, an immense expanse of meadows framed by firs, larches and Swiss pines, overlooked by the Pala di Santa, where you can breathe in the true essence of the Trentino mountains.
Do you know why our hiking hotel is called the Hotel Alla Rocca? It’s the name of the mountain behind the village of Varena, the ‘Rocca’, the Corno Nero, which is part of the Parco Naturale Monte Corno, included in the ‘Natura 2000’ European Ecological Network due to its great variety of species and particular beauty. The park features Monte Corno, the main mountain, 1,781 m high, which connects two very distinctive mountains of the Val di Fiemme: the Corno Nero, above the Hotel Alla Rocca, (2,439 m) consisting of porphyry, dark-coloured rocks of volcanic origin, and the Corno Bianco (2,316 m.), in light friable dolomite. Between these mountains opens up the beautiful Bletterbach Canyon, which traces the geological evolution and genesis of the Dolomite rocks, an excursion not to be missed when you’re on holiday at the Hotel Alla Rocca.
Trentino is the hiking destination par excellence and here in Val di Fiemme, there are trails suitable for all ages and physical conditions. Just think that in the municipality of Ville di Fiemme alone, starting directly from the Hotel Alla Rocca, hikers have more than 75 km of trails at their disposal, all of which are mapped out and signposted. Not bad, right?
